About Us

 

Patrick and Alison met working at Silver Dollar City in Pigeon Forge in 1984. Patrick was a potter and a blacksmith. Alison was a broom maker, candle maker and learned to make soap from Della Hurst. They married on July 10th, 1988. In 1990 their first daughter Lindley was born followed by Megan, Lindley's best friend in 1992. The four of them moved to Athens Ohio in 1995 for Patrick to attend Ohio University to receive his Masters in Fine Arts. At this time Alison started making soap at home so she could stay home with their girls, while Patrick worked on his degree. After Patrick's graduation they returned to East Tennessee. Patrick worked in construction for a while and Alison worked at an insurance agency. In 1998 the Houston's moved to Rocky Flats where they built their studio and started Rocky Flats Pottery and Soap. With 2000 came the birth of their son Caleb, Lindley and Megan had a little brother. in 2002 Patrick and Alison decided to take the big step of having a store front. After having the opportunity to enjoy a couple different locations, in 2010, they found their forever Gallery home in Buie's Landing, part of the Great Smoky Arts and Crafts Community. Lindley and Megan are both now  married and own Bloom & Berry Coffee House next door to Rocky Flays Pottery and Soap. Caleb is an artist with a concentration in print making.
